DAY ONE Visit Athelhampton House and wander the five acres of award-winning gardens, including four walled formal gardens, each with pools and fountains, and explore the broader gardens with over 1000ft of deep herbaceous borders and mature trees plus a one-acre productive kitchen garden. Then tour the historic Tudor Great Hall, built by Sir William Martyn in 1485 and extended during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, with more than twenty historic rooms to visit. DAY TWO Sneak across the border to Wiltshire to visit magnificent Stourhead with its Paladian mansion and acres of landscaped gardens, including temples and a subterranean grotto. Not in Dorset we know but when you are this close it would be a shame to miss it. DAY THREE Sunday is the day for private gardens, either a village open gardens event where you can meet gardeners ranging from enthusiastic amateurs to experienced plantsmen and women. We can also arrange visits to gardens participating in the The National Gardens Scheme.
