Guided Walks

We only offer a few guided walks each year.  Two long distance trails and a selection of day walks which include pick ups from both Dorchester stations.  You will be led by a knowledgeable, local guide and groups will be of no more than six guests.  Timings allow for stopping for lunch, taking in the view and taking lots of beautiful photographs but not the time taken for transfers.  Please talk to us about train times before booking if you are unsure.  Below you will find our selection for 2026.  Book early - they're very popular!

Lulworth and Durdle Door

This small group, guided walk takes in two of the most famous Dorset landmarks - the pretty horseshoe bay at Lulworth and the iconic rock arch that is Durdle Door. After a stiff climb away from these, you then take a challenging and hilly route along a less-visited stretch of the coast to the quiet beach at Ringstead Bay and finishing with a well-earned drink at The Smugglers Inn at Osmington.

The Cerne Abbas Giant

This 8 mile walk starts in the historic village of Cerne Abbas, known for its Benedictine Abbey ruins, pretty stone cottages and the famous Cerne Giant hill figure. Our route climbs to follow the Wessex Ridgeway for a while before dropping into one of the most peaceful valleys in the county. This stretch of the walk is quiet and often deserted, with broad skies and a sense of real isolation. Finally, we descend to Sydling St Nicholas, a traditional chalk stream village, for a reviving drink at The Greyhound Inn before transferring back to Cerne Abbas or Dorchester station.

Bees and Butterflies

A day spent exploring West Dorset's quiet valleys on this nine mile ramble. You start your walk with a meander around Lower Kingcombe nature reserve, home to rare butterflies and flowers before heading off through some of the quietest countryside in the county, walking through another nature reserve on the way. Passing beneath the mighty ramparts of Eggardon Hill, you finish your day with a refreshing drink at the excellent Spyway Inn whilst you wait for your transfer back to your car or the station.

There are far-reaching views on every side, over the coast, heathland and Poole Harbour. You pass Old Harry Rocks towards the end of the walk and finish at The Bankes Arms in Studland where you can sit with a refreshing drink, overlooking the sea in their beer garden before transferring back to your car or the station.

The Isle of Portland

Connected to the mainland by just a shingle causeway, Portland has a unique atmosphere quite unlike any other parts of Dorset. We will be walking most of the coast path around the island, all with magnificent sea views. The route is ten miles but is mostly easy going without any serious climbs. Highlights include the ghost tunnels at the High Angle Battery, Portland Bill lighthouse and Tout Quarry sculpture park which is full of surprises.
