THE WALK
Highlights:
Two of Dorset's best nature reserves
Peace and tranquility
Flower-filled meadows
This walk has to be one of the most peaceful in Dorset, exploring the remote byways of West Dorset though wildlife-rich woodland, meadows and farmland.
Your walk begins at the Kingcombe Visitor Centre, which provides information about the 185 hectare Kingcombe Meadows reserve and its wildlife. The meadows are traditionally managed without artificial fertilizers, resulting in a rich diversity of wildflowers and wildlife. There is also a cafe here for breakfast or a cup of coffee before you set off.
Your route now meanders through remote fields and woodland, through small hamlets to the village of Powerstock where you will find a welcome drink at The Three Horseshoes inn.
On then to Powerstock Common, another nature reserve featuring ancient woodland, open glades and ponds and the end of your walk.
You have the option to extend your walk to 12 miles and take in the house and gardens at Mapperton.
